Shipping Inspections

RPAS/UAV/Drone inspections onboard ships is a specialty at QSurvey. Our inspection equipment provides high-definition video and photogrammetry data sets showing the internal condition of confined spaces such as ballast tanks, void spaces, water tanks, fuel tanks, cargo holds, and other ship compartments.

Inspections and surveys are completed efficiently and without hassle by our purpose-built, remote-controlled drones. They are guided with great accuracy, impervious to magnetic interference. Being impact-tolerant, they are built to withstand physical buffeting without losing their momentum.

RPAS/UAV/Drone Solutions to the Ship Owner

The collision tolerant confined space inspection equipment we use at QSurvey is highly efficient at capturing videography and photogrammetry data from inside the confined space such as the ballast tank of a cargo ship. By replacing the more traditional, time-consuming and costly methods, we are able to slash costs to the ship owner.

Cargo Ships and Tankers

The RPAS/UAV equipment we use at QSurvey can complete internal confined space/ tank inspections in a cost effective and timely manner, saving you thousands of dollars in the process. The traditional methodology of inspecting confined spaces onboard ships involved pre-venting, setting up of scaffolding/staging, possibly require rope access teams, surveyors / inspectors / engineers had to be trained and certified in confined space entry.

Case history #1. It can take 3 – 4 rope inspectors 18 days to inspect 6 tanks on a ship and possibly cost approximately $21,000.0 – $22,000.00. Using our type of RPAS/UAV equipment, a team of 2 people completed the 6 tanks in one (1) day.

Case history #2. Ships ballast tank anode inspection. 15M x 12M, 3 sections, 2 floors. Normally requires 3 – 4 crew with extensive safety equipment ventilation etc. Several hours to inspect. Using our type of RPAS/UAV equipment, a team of 1 person completed the ballast tank anode inspection in less than one (1) hour.

At QSurvey, we simply require the manhole cover to be removed and we can begin the inspection from outside the confined space.
